Van Loveren has always been defined by legacy and driven by a pioneering spirit.
OUR WINES
Van Loveren has been in the Retief family since 1937 when Hennie Retief snr acquired the land in Robertson Valley and named it after Christiena van Loveren, an ancestor of his young bride, Jean van Zyl. In those years sweet wines and wine for brandy were made. In the 1970’s when Nico and Wynand had joined Hennie, the winery was modernised and the first dry wines were made - Colombar and Steen (Chenin blanc), soon followed by noble varieties Sauvignon blanc and Chardonnay in the early 1980’s.
PASSIONATELY
PERFECTED
A major milestone was reached in 1980, with the launch of the Van Loveren brand – a mere 500 cases of Premier Grand Cru. From these humble beginnings Van Loveren has grown to become South Africa’s leading family-owned winery. Wynand and Nico’s dream to make a wine for every palate and occasion has laid the foundation of our winemaking philosophy set in today’s competitive world where innovation and consumer trends guide us to continue to produce quality wines and build strong brands.
