Wine tourism in South Africa is one-of-a-kind. Our region holds a special trio: pristine vineyards, breathtaking vistas, and warm hospitality. Few places embody sensory delight quite like Van Loveren. Nestled in the Robertson Valley, this family farm is relaxed and welcoming, yet quietly impressive.
Here you’ll find memorable tastings, delicious bites, and more to feed the soul – all just two hours from Cape Town.
Meet the Robertson Karoo Wine in South Africa
Variety and expression define the tastings and pairings at Van Loveren. A wine tourism day spent here is all about flavour, sights, and the Karoo landscape that brings cultivars to life.

The Tastings
Shades of Chardonnay – Four expressions of one varietal, each with its own personality. See how soil, barrel, and time shift a single grape into something completely different.
Cheese & Wine Pairing – The classic done right. Nutty cheeses soften tannins, reds taste richer, and you suddenly notice nuances you’d missed before.
Tangled Tree Wine & Chocolate – Playful and unexpected. Guava and fig with Sauvignon Blanc, Cape Malay spice teasing out hidden notes in Shiraz, hazelnut mocha creating contrasts you wouldn’t predict.
Christina Master Pairing – The flagship experience showcasing wine farms in the Western Cape at their finest. Top-tier wines from crisp Cap Classique to bold Cabernet, paired with Olyfberg olive oil, dukkah, and fresh ciabatta.
Book your tasting and cellar tours at Van Loveren to try the flavours you love and those you have yet to discover. Travelling with little ones? The Papillon non-alcoholic tasting keeps them entertained and included.

The Cellar Tours
Van Loveren’s guided cellar tours take you behind the scenes to learn how the Robertson Karoo sun, limestone soil, cool cellars, and French Oak come together to create something remarkable. The tour also offers a glimpse into how three generations have kept this farm going through droughts, floods, and everything in between. Take in the journey to exceptional wine while sipping on a glass of celebrated Cap Classique.
Explore, Wander & Refuel After Wine Tourism
Between tastings, Van Loveren offers space to wander, explore, and nourish. Adults, kids, and four-legged friends are welcome!

The Heritage Garden
Founded by Oupa Hennie and Ouma Jean Retief, these sprawling grounds hold trees planted to mark family milestones and significant historical moments. Take the kids on a self-guided wander past koi ponds, a giant chessboard, and a vintage tractor. Or enjoy a private garden tour with bubbly in hand and hear the stories behind the trees.
The Trails
Scenic trails loop on the farm and cross the protected Cape Floral Kingdom. This conserved ecosystem boasts fynbos and renosterveld.
Fish Eagle Hiking Trail – This 7.5km route winds through fynbos with potential sightings of over 100 bird species, from Peregrine Falcons to the African Fish Eagle. Allow three and a half hours at a relaxed pace.
Van Loveren Trail Running – Routes of 2.5km and 10km for all fitness levels.
Permits are available online or at the tasting room during trading hours. Be sure to plan your wine tourism with a little adventure to take in sweeping views of the valley.

Christina’s Bistro
After morning trails or a full day of wine tourism, settle in at Christina’s Bistro for wood-fired pizzas and gourmet burgers with outside seating under a pergola.
